1 John 4:10

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

The enormity and heavy weight meaning of Christmas is that Christmas leads to Good Friday. Christmas is not the end in itself. Christmas happens so that a Good Friday will take place.

That is preached very clearly in and with the Baby’s name. “You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins,” (Matthew 1:21).

Save his people from their sins. That you need to be saved from the hellish consequences of your sins tells you that you are a sinner and that you need a Savior. Your sins need to be answered for. They need to be forgiven. Otherwise, all will end hellaciously for you. God doesn’t want that for you. Never did. He would give you heaven, not hell. He would give you eternal life, not eternal death. He would be God FOR YOU and that you would be content to live as His creatures – trusting in Him.

That’s the entire point of God the Father giving His only begotten Son as gift. Baby Jesus is pure gift from the Father. FOR YOU! “This is love: not that we loved God.” That’s a no brainer! “But that He loved us.” Really? Yes. God loves you. How do you know that? Well, it’s because He “sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

That’s Good Friday! Good Friday is the climax of Christmas. This is what Jesus is born to do! Born to be crucified. Born to shed His divine Blood as the one and only sacrifice to atone for your sin.

The Baby Jesus is Immanuel. He is literally: God with us! God with us in the manger! God with us on the cross. The man Jesus who dies on the cross is God Himself! In the person of Jesus, who is true God and true man, God dies for you! That means that His divine Good Friday death IS THE ATONING SACRIFICE FOR YOUR SINS.

Consequently, you are forgiven. Salvation is yours. This is the meaning of Christmas. Love. God’s love for you. Hear it again.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

As you believe, so you have!

A Happy Christmas to you all.

In the Name of Jesus.
